JESSICA RUBIN

Fitness has always been a huge part of my life. Growing up as a nationally ranked competitive figure skater, I learned at a young age the importance of living an active lifestyle. My fascination for health and fitness eventually led me to pursue becoming immersed in the fitness industry through training and instructing. Since the age of 16 I have been leading various fitness classes and group exercise formats. My passion is to make exercise fun and accessible to anyone and everyone who wishes to better their health and life. My training specialty lies in balance and coordination using various methods such as yoga, aerial silks, and functional movement. 

It brings me great joy to be a part of the wonderful community here at Point Loma Sports Club, and I hope to inspire you to make your health and longevity a priority each and every day!

Years of passion and experience in the world of physical fitness and athleticism naturally led me to love my work as a professional Personal Trainer. Certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine and always a continuing student, I combine cutting edge techniques with tried-and-true traditions to help get you strong, fit, flexible and healthy. 

I see myself more than just a Personal Trainer, but also as your coach, ally, guide, and friend. DEREK SCOTT

As a D-1 athlete, I experienced what it was like to wake up in the best shape of my life, only to go to bed that night unable to walk, with a surgery booked and 6-12 months of injury rehab on my calendar. That happened three times in my life. The empowering part about those physical low points is realizing that strength literally is your only option. Now my passion is passing along the emotional support, knowledge & practical skills I learned though those experiences and over many years as an athlete & personal trainer.  What I’ve found is that although every body is different, we all experience major life obstacles in maintaining our health. What I enjoy about coaching is learning about my clients’ unique circumstances, and helping them apply the optimal dose of strength & conditioning to improve their quality of life. Everybody deserves a unique fitness plan, custom to their lifestyle, and the accountability they need to reach their goals. This puzzle of optimizing each unique human body is what gets me out of bed and excited to train my clients at the crack of dawn!

Life is a journey, and to be able to impact and enhance someone’s overall quality of life and their day to day enjoyment is a blessing.

My philosophy is that every one of us has unique challenges and opportunities, and we all need help and mentorship at some point in our lives to be successful. Sharing the gift of confidence, and helping to improve not only your physical well-being, but your mental and spiritual self is a worthy quest.

DARLENE JANSSEN

My love for fitness originated at an early age. I was naturally drawn to the outdoors and sports, enjoying the challenge in stretching my abilities and strengths in track, basketball, and dance. My personal experience taught me that growth and development is possible through dedication, consistency, and picking yourself up to try again. 

After college, I was given an excellent opportunity to work side by side with physicians in wellness centers, designing nutrition and exercise protocols for our patients. Through this experience, I realized the joy in working with people to dramatically improve their health and fitness, achieve their ideal weight, and truly change their lives by becoming their own success story!

Working as a Personal Fitness Trainer and Health Coach for over 25 years, I have been blessed with the opportunity to work with thousands of individuals in their quest for fitness. I have found it is important to challenge yourself in a variety of ways in the gym to keep it interesting, fun, and produce results. A truly fit person has abilities in all areas of fitness including strength, flexibility, cardio, and implementing lifestyle habits that support optimum health. ABE AL-BABA

My absolute passion is paving the way to a healthy lifestyle through fitness and nutrition. That passion is deeply rooted from competing in sports such as: football, wrestling, collegiate lacrosse, kickboxing and boxing.

Within the past two years I have really embraced the power of neuroscience. It has given me the ability to rapidly heal pain or enhance athletic performance, and unlock my client's full potential within a few sessions.I thoroughly enjoy developing all populations including USA Olympians, NFL, NBA, UFC and Glory Kickboxing athletes, as well as chronic pain, neurological disorder, and weight loss clientele.

My aim is to provide the brain with the most appropriate input to get amazing output. An individual’s lifestyle, injuries, surgeries, etc. will affect these inputs and usually produce poor outputs. With a thorough assessment, we explore and confirm the input and integration areas that need specific focus to reach each individual’s optimal performance. Tim Malley

I was recruited by numerous universities for both cross-country and diving, but eventually decided to become a Division 1 NCAA Diver at West Virginia University. While at West Virginia University I was first introduced to elite and cutting edge resistance training.

I have trained side-by-side with elite trainers and physical therapists. Joint and core stability is the foundation of my training practice.

Whether it is your first time in the gym, or you are an elite athlete, form and core stability are the foundation for any training program. After an assessment to determine any injuries and/or imbalances, your body should be conditioned for endurance and stability. Once attained, a training program can be specifically tailored to your needs.

Brittney Poppe

My career as a Mobility Coach began with the practice of yoga. My passion for authentic movement all started with learning the body, its well-being and how to help promote collective awareness. Discovering mobility and breath potential keeps our body running optimally while staying injury free. Greater capacity for movement with active stretching significantly increases your athletic capability and performance levels.

Active flexibility is the perfect marriage between strength and mobility. It requires you to emphasize control throughout a full and complete range of motion.

By increasing our knowledge of our senses we heighten our awareness both mentally and physically. My vision is to help guide my clients to a more active lifestyle by optimizing health and wellness.

Rachel Barrington

I was an unhealthy athlete with bad habits, a poor diet, and no real understanding of the human body. I joined a gym and began taking group exercise classes and fell in love with fitness. I became a certified personal trainer in 2013, having no idea the endless amount of opportunity and an unmatched passion that would unlock. In my constant search for information and new ways to stay fit, I stumbled upon the circus industry. It did not take long for me to realize that I wanted to immerse myself in the acrobat/ aerialist world, and share my passion for movement with others.

My clients range from athletes, body builders, aerialists, and the senior population. My mission is to help my clients realize their body's true potential and help them unlock new skills and talents. I absolutely love what I do and love having the opportunity to change lives! My specialties include mobility/flexibility training, handstand mechanics, strength and endurance training, aerial arts, and kickboxing!
